Ranking Updated: June 2014
  1. While frying pans made of copper heat evenly, such items can be expensive, not to mention, prone to scratches. As a cheaper alternative, consider heavy gauge aluminum which distributes heat just as well.
  2. Nonstick coatings can be a great help when frying food, but you must take more care when using them, as they can chip and crack over time due to excessive heat and improper cleaning.
  3. For safety, choose frying pans with long handles and supplied covers.
  4. A spout-like indentation on the sides will help in pouring hot liquids out of the frying pan.

    Pros: Durable, Heats evenly, Non-stick
    Cons: Not dishwasher safe

Review: The Lodge Cast Iron Skillet is a pre-seasoned skillet that you can use from breakfast through dinner. It's excellent at conducting heat which leads to better and tastier meals. It is perfect for frying chicken, making pancakes, omelets and other hearty meals. Other benefits include a helper handle for lifting, a loop that allows you to hang it on the rack and two side spouts for pouring grease. Unlike the usual aluminum and stainless steel pans, a cast-iron skillet is a bit difficult to maintain. It's not dishwasher safe so you will need to follow the instructions that tells you to gently scrub it with a stiff brush, wash it with hot water and dry. A little more of your time could be worth it because this piece could last you a lifetime if properly taken care of and it will continue to give you great results just like when you first used it.

Pros: Large cooking surface, Nice domed lid, No long handle
Cons: Shallow, Lightweight, Handles doesn’t stay cool

Review: people, not only food enthusiasts and chefs, know what the many benefits of stainless steel pans are. For one, they don’t chip or peel like nonstick skillets. They also look better and heats up quickly. The Cuisinart 12" Everyday Pan, a stainless steel pan, has all the potential, making it worthy of its name. It can literally be an everyday pan, offering good performance with its aluminum core and 18/10 stainless steel construction. You can cook eggs, vegetables, pasta and meat without anything sticking. Plus, oven-safe up to 550 degrees F, you can start by cooking your food in the stovetop then finish it in the oven. The supplied domed lid locks in heat and moisture. The stainless steel pan has plenty of cooking space, measuring 11-4/5 by 14-1/2 by 2-4/5 inches. Along with the pan comes a limited lifetime warranty. Clean-up is same as other stainless steel pans. It can be washed either by hand or through the dishwasher if you don’t have time or if you prefer the easy way. Another advantage is that compared to pans with long handles, the two side handles of the Cuisinart 12" Everyday Pan doesn’t get in the way when cooking, and they provide a nice balance when you’re lifting or carrying the pan. On the negative side, the Everyday Pan is a bit shallow, allowing you to only flip a small amount of food comfortably. Moreover, the pan is very lightweight and so are the handles. As a result, it may be a little awkward to hold for those who are used to heavy pans. You may also notice that the handles get hot rather easily. Overall quality is still better than most pans in the same price range, though. In fact, we would go so far as to say that it would’ve been perfect if only it was made an inch deeper and slightly heavier.

  • Anolon ANN1045 Advanced Non-Stick French Skillet Size: 10-in. ANN1045_7253061

Pros: Ten-inch skillet with interior and exterior non-stick coating, Heavy-gauge aluminum body, Sloped sides with flared rim for easy pouring
Cons: Heavy, Silicon coating does not cover entire handle

Review: Anolon's Advanced Non-stick Fry pan, for its price, is great as a part of your everyday kitchen chores. It handles food items that are known for being very sticky like eggs, crepes, and other food items with aplomb. This ten-inch skillet is coated inside and out with a generous layer of non-stick compound, giving it excellent anti-sticking properties even with very little cooking spray. The double-side durable coating extends nearly to the bottom of the frying pan, which makes this Anolon pan very easy to clean. Aside from the double dose of non-stick coating, the Anolon Advanced Frying Pan has a heavy-gauge, hard-anodized aluminum construction that not only prevents warping, but, with an uncoated underside, heats up evenly. Since it disperses the heat coming from your stove all throughout the bottom without being centered in individual spots, your food also cooks evenly. However, keeping the heat under the pan at low to medium levels cooks food more effectively aside from prolonging the life of the non-stick coating. The sides of the Anolon Advanced skillet are gently sloped, and the rim has a slight flare which helps in draining liquids. There isn't much in the way of issues with regards to the Anolon Advanced Non-Stick Frying Pan, as it seems to be a very well crafted, high quality piece of cookware. We would suggest that you hold it with both hands though, as it could be quite heavy. Also, while it has a silicon coating on the handle that keeps cool, the end closer to the pan does not have the silicon coating and may cause burns.
