TIPS
  1. Standard inkjet printers have four ink tanks, while photo inkjet printers have an additional two tanks which make it better for printing images.
  2. To cut costs on equipment purchases, a multifunction inkjet printer is a handy alternative, especially if you have a small office.
  3. Get a printer that supports wireless networking if you need to use it alongside many computers.
  4. Consider portable inkjet printers if you work outside most of the time and need a mobile printing solution.

Pros: Pro-quality prints, Wide format, Prints on CDs/DVDs, Reasonable print speeds, Easy setup
Cons: Large footprint, Does not include a USB cable

Review: Enjoy pro-quality prints, up to 13" x 19", and total flexibility that you can only get with wireless using the Epson Artisan 1430. Set-up is extremely fast and easy when paired with a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) capable router, and the printer’s Claria 6-color ink plus Epson's premium line of papers brings out the best color and the highest print quality from your printer, regardless of the paper size. The printer handles large paper sizes and can print on envelopes and on inkjet printable CDs and DVDs too. Its input tray holds up to 100 sheets of plain paper and accepts No. 10 envelopes. Through Epson Connect, users can print straight from their iOS devices or other mobile devices. A PictBridge port also permits direct connection of your cameras or phones. The Artisan 1430’s print speeds are not the fastest but are quite reasonable at 2.8 ISO ppm for both black and color. Printing 13" x 19", 11" x 14", 8" x 10" and 4" x 6" borderless photos will take 3min, 2 min 53 sec, 1 min 51 sec and 46 sec, respectively. Image enhancement tools and an Adobe Photoshop Elements software are provided for hassle-free photo editing or photo correction. The Artisan 1430 comes complete with the CD-ROM containing the necessary drivers and software for both Windows and Mac, a power cord, an Adobe Photoshop Elements DVD, a One-year limited warranty and six individual inks consist of a Black High-capacity ink cartridge (T079120). All it lacks is a USB cable but buying one as an additional accessory is possible. The printer is a beast, in terms of both its size and printing capability. Its total size of 24.3" x 31.4" x 16.3" (W x D x H) demands considerable desk space but is typical of wide format printers. The control panel on top of the unit allows easy access while its minimal buttons simplify operation. The Epson Artisan 1430, with its impressive print quality, enables you to keep printing in confidence. Wireless also means that you can conveniently print and share from virtually anywhere in your home or office and no longer have to be tethered to your printer.

Pros: High-quality output, Great paper handling, Fast print speed
    Cons: Pricey ink refills

Review: The Epson WorkForce WF-3640 All-in-One printer is in the same league as larger multifunction printers. It is outfitted with Epson’s PrecisionCore printing technology which sees to it that users will be well-satisfied with the stunning detail and high-quality output. The ink dries immediately, producing prints that are resistant to water, smudge and fading. The same could be said for the WF-3640’s fax, copier and scanner. The quality of the scans and copies are both excellent, and the fax function could come in handy. It also has a 35-sheet automatic document feeder and a handful of web connected features which include the ability to scan to email or any cloud services. The WF-3640 works perfectly for quick and all around printing, with ISO print speeds of 19 ppm black and 10 ppm color. Eco-friendly, it uses up to 70% less power compared to most laser printers and features duplex printing which helps with cutting down paper costs. The WF-3640 utilizes small 4-color DURABrite Ultra pigment ink cartridges which can be costly to replace though. Users can expect flexible connectivity, through Ethernet or Wi-Fi. You no longer need to connect cables or free up USB ports just to print from your tablet, smartphones or computer. It gives you total freedom from wires and allows you to print directly anytime, anywhere. Paper handling is great too, as it has dual front trays that can hold an entire ream of paper or up to 500 sheets, as well as a single-sheet rear feeder that accommodates specialty paper like labels and envelopes. Installation is trouble-free. The user guide is very detailed and can be downloaded through Epson’s website. No USB cable and bloat ware are included, and firmware updates can be done wirelessly. An SD card slot and a USB port can also be found on the front panel. Operating the Epson WorkForce WF-3640 using the bright 3.5" color touchscreen may require multiple presses but you should experience no problems once you get used to it.

  • SELPHY CP910 Dye Sublimation Printer - Color - Photo Print - Portable - 2.7\

Pros: Easy to use, Portable, Nice photo quality
Cons: No in-app editing, Tends to crop pictures

Review: The Canon SELPHY CP910 brings users the convenience of printing photos from their phone, tablet, camera, USB Flash Drive or memory card wirelessly and quickly. The optional NB-CP2L battery and CG-CP200 Charger Adapter gives the printer greater functionality by transforming it into an extremely portable printing station. The CP910 is integrated with Dye-sublimation technology, Portrait Image Optimize and Red-eye Correction which guarantee beautiful photos. Photos printed from the CP910 are water-resistant too to ensure longer life. Some colors seem a little washed out and photo quality is not as good as professional prints but it is great for the purpose of creating scrapbooks or photo albums. The CP910 can print a photo in less than a minute. It is also not the fastest since it requires four passes before you can get the final picture. The 2.7" Tilt-up LCD makes it fun to use and negates the need for a computer. The downloadable Easy-PhotoPrint app defeats the purpose of being quick and easy though, as it has no preview, edit or rotate function. When printing, the CP910 tends to cut or crop a portion of the picture. The workaround is to use a resize app to change the aspect ratio to 4 x 6 and see the beauty of the entire image. Good looking, the Canon SELPHY CP910 makes a nice addition to your photo equipment. Unlike other photo printers, it is available in black and white to suit different tastes. The small footprint is a great bonus too, as it sits nicely on top or inside the cabinet. You can even bring it on events and share special moments instantly. Actual measurements are 7.0" (W) x 5.0" (D) x 2.4" (H). The Canon SELPHY CP910 ships with a compact power adapter, a paper cassette and a software CD. It supports AirPrint and is compatible with SD, SDHC and SDXC Memory Cards. Other types of memory cards are also supported through a special adapter.

Pros: Good print quality, Quiet operation, Easy to install, Inexpensive
Cons: Slow, Poor documentation, Small ink cartridges

Review: The HP Envy 5660 e-All-in-One Printer provides a convenient way to better appreciate photos taken from your smartphones or tablet, or print documents wirelessly. Marketed as a home or home-office printer, it boasts good print quality and does all the main functions such as scanning, copying and printing up to 14 ppm black and up to 9 ppm color. Moreover, it is capable of two-sided printing and also features scan to email through the printer control app or scan to file via software. It supports various formats including PDF, BMP, PNG, TIF and JPG. Though the written instructions are not very clear, the printer is incredibly easy to install. The menus are pretty basic too, and the 2.65-inch or 6.75 cm touch screen makes it easier to navigate, edit photos or enter text. The HP Envy 5660 e-All-in-One Printer has a minimalist design with only one button in front for power and the familiar HP logo on top. The main input tray is capable of holding up to 125 sheets while the output tray has a 25-sheet capacity. A dedicated 15-sheet photo tray enables you to print 4 x 6-inch photos from your Apple, Android or other mobile devices right away. Weighing only 15.04 lbs., the printer is easy to carry or transfer from room to room, should the need arise. No USB cable is included in the package but it already comes with a power cord, an HP 62 Black Ink Cartridge, an HP 62 Tri-color Ink Cartridge, a software CD and setup instructions. Given the size of the ink cartridges though, it might not last very long. Purchasing extra cartridges for continuous printing or considering high-yield ink cartridges if your business requires heavy printing seems like a good idea. In addition to the HP Printer Software, the CD also contains HP Photo Creations, Shop for Supplies Online and HP Update for easy manual updates. Overall, if speed isn’t a necessity, the HP Envy 5660 e-All-in-One Printer is worth looking into.
