It is constructed with durable aluminum, ABS, POM, PC and PS and has rubber feet that provide a strong grip. It also features a leveler, an elevator function and a quick-release head that make it perfect for on-the-go. Given its weight, you can take it along and carry it from location to location but on a side note, it doesn't come with a carrying bag so you might have to buy one for traveling and protection purposes. The VCT-R640 by Sony is ideal for photo shoot sessions as well as group and timed shots. While it is not comparable to higher-priced tripods, it allows smooth panning for shooting high quality videos and it is definitely sturdier than cheaper models. It is also not intended for heavy video recorders but it can hold cameras weighing up to 11.5 oz or 325 g. It also features a video head for smooth panning and tilting and a quick-release mounting plate with a universal 1/4-20 screw which permits easy placement and removal of your camcorder. It has a cam-lock feature that holds the camera securely in place even when in movement and a locking knob that turns easily to release the unit from its standing formation. On a side note, it lacks a true quick-release knob. The legs lock to four stages including that of full height, with strong flip locks holding them in place and tipped with plastic feet.
