TIPS
  1. A cordless phone system with multiple units will allow you to answer calls anywhere in your home or office.
  2. DECT 6.0 technology in cordless sets provides clear voice quality.
  3. Most cordless phones require batteries to operate, so pick models that have back-up power features or those that support rechargeable batteries to minimize charging or battery replacement.
  4. Some cordless sets feature a programmable caller ID, letting you know the name and number of the person on the other line.

Pros: Hands free, two headset options, great range
    Cons: No handset option, expensive

The Plantronics CT14 Cordless Headset Phone is made for convenience with its hands free operation. The handset that the headset plugs into comes with a clip so the handset can easily be clipped onto a pants pocket for mobility and convenience. The handset is used mainly for dialing. The headset is smartly designed for long periods of use. It can be worn either over the ear or over the head using the headband. You can even change between the two during a long call. The microphone on the headset uses noise canceling to block any background noise. You can talk for hours on this phone with a talk time battery life of ten hours. On standby, the battery will keep working for eight days. The phone uses DECT 6.0 Technology for a wireless range of up to 300 feet. It operates on a frequency of 1.9GHz that makes sure it will not interfere with any other wireless devices in your home. The phone uses standard features, including call waiting, caller ID, and an answering machine. It also uses a few extra features such as any key answering, intercom, and three way conference calling. The phone does tend to be expensive though.

Pros: Clear sound quality, Incredible Link-to-cell technology, Talking Caller ID, Voice alerts, Expandable up to 6 handsets
Cons: No backup battery, Initial charging takes 7 hours

Easily expandable up to 6 handsets, the Panasonic KX-TG6582T provides a true home phone solution. Like any other cordless phone in the same price range, you can communicate between handsets via Intercom and easily find misplaced handsets using the convenient handset locator. In addition to call waiting and caller id, it is also capable of up to 4-way conference calls. But unlike other phone systems, it has more innovative features such as Panasonic Link-to-Cell technology which allows you to link your cellphone to receive and make calls using your Panasonic handset, Intelligent Eco Mode for lower power consumption when used near the base unit and Talking Caller ID which incorporates text-to-speech technology in order to dictate the caller information and eliminate the hassle of going directly to the unit. It also has a Silent mode which can be really useful when you're trying to get some sleep, Call Block which lets you get rid of annoying callers and voice alerts that remind you when you need to charge the handset. The Black Metallic exterior of this particular model makes it more attractive than most phone systems. The slip-resistant handsets are comfortable to hold and the backlit keypad and LCD display enable easy operation during the night. While its compact design is ideal for tight spaces, those who'd like to place it in their kitchen or even those who just really value space can easily mount it on the wall using the supplied Smart Wall-Mount. The Panasonic KX-TG6582T has a few nitpicks. Initial charging takes seven hours and it doesn't have a battery backup in case of power outage. Nevertheless, it is one of the most dependable phone systems you could buy for your home. It is integrated with Dect 6.0 Plus technology for crystal clear conversations and increased range and it packs more useful features than your ordinary cordless phone.

Pros: Two-line wireless phone with extra keypad, Has voice mail, intercom and conference call features, Battery operated
Cons: Mounts to walls from the back instead of the bottom of the unit

It seems like even before the advent of mobile communications and high-speed Internet that allow users to make free calls to anywhere, the telephone will never go away. This is because the old communications standby has earned a respectable place in every home and office decades before the development of technologies that proved to be the telephone's stiffest competition. While it looks as though the telephone has reached the limits of its possible evolution, the Panasonic KX-TG9382T proves that one does need to reinvent the wheel - or in this case, the unit itself- to make a quality product. This cordless phone shares its operation between two lines: a base unit with an entire suite of phone-related features and a docked extension phone. Both units have the same model of cordless keypads serving as their dialers. The base unit has ready support for six additional handsets, as well as a 40-minute all-digital voicemail recording capacity. It has an intercom feature, a speakerphone, conference calling and the answering machine capability. There is also a Caller ID and a Missed Call register tucked away in a sub-menu of the phone display. Copying phone numbers from a PDA or a mobile phone to the phone base is made simple through Bluetooth technology. You can sync numbers from the base unit to the remote phone by batch or individually. But if you have extra phones, it has to be done one at a time. On the other hand, the docked extra handset requires to be within range of the base unit, with a maximum range of over 200 feet in clear line of sight. It doesn't require an existing phone line to be installed at the remote location for it to be usable but it does require AA batteries for power, as does the base unit. Fortunately, it does not eat up batteries so much that you are required to replace them often. On the whole, the Panasonic performs as well as an ordinary wireless phone, albeit with a secondary keypad. Audio quality both ways is comparable to wired phones and its ring tone can be customized by volume or desired melody. It can operate on two selectable channels to ensure that there is no conflict or interference if you have other wireless devices in your home. Panasonic made the unit mountable but instead of the traditional bottom-of-the-unit placement, the phone's base unit hangs like a shelf off your wall making it a bit ungainly.

Pros: Clear sound, Good reception, Talking Caller ID, Bright display, Call block feature
Cons: Low handset volume, Phone holders are somewhat lightweight, Low-capacity phone memory

For large offices or for 3-story or larger houses, the Panasonic KX-TG6533B and KX-TG6532B could be a really big help. Consists of three and two handsets, respectively, both these phones have the power to bring convenience to an entirely new dimension by letting you place a single or multiple handsets on each room or floor. It also synchronizes all the stored numbers on your phonebook through all handsets. Needless to say, sound quality and range are both incredible, courtesy of the phone's Dect Plus technology. For hassle-free operation, there are 10 tones and melodies, a bright display, a backlit keypad, a headset jack, a Handset Locator, a Digital Answering System and a Smart Wall-Mount for mounting it into your kitchen's wall. You can add up to 6 Handsets. The Non-Slip Handset allows you to do other things without discomfort or without having to constantly fix or hold the phone just to make sure that it won't slip over your shoulder. Although the base is sturdy, the phone holders, on the other hand, are somewhat lightweight thus, causing it to move while you're getting the handset, but this is just a minor inconvenience since it doesn't hamper the phone's usability in any way. What seems to be the real drawback is the volume which can be inadequate, especially when you're using the phone in a noisy environment. Another thing that you need to consider is the phone's memory. It can store up to 50 names and numbers which may be enough for home-use but not for businesses that require saving the contact details of numerous callers. Otherwise, the Panasonic KX-TG6533B and KX-TG6532B can do what higher-priced phone systems can. It permits up to 4-Way Conference Call and the phone gives the handset owner the freedom to put their handset into silent mode before they sleep. It also features Call Waiting capability, a Talking Caller ID that announces the name and number of the caller so you won't have to go near the phone to check and last but not least, a call block feature that keeps annoying callers at bay.

Pros: Easy set-up, Great range and sound, Excellent battery life, Clear and large display, Two line operation
Cons: No belt clip, No headset jack on the base

The VTech DS6151 boasts a two line operation which means you won't need multiple phones. You can dial and receive calls using the same phone but different phone lines. Your calls are encrypted for protection and the DECT 6.0 digital technology improves the sound quality and range for clearer conversations. Its range is rated for up to 500 feet and the phone itself does not cause interference with your wireless devices. The only complaints are the absence of a belt clip and a headphone jack on the base. Additional handsets have headphone jacks, though. It even has a handset locator that gives you a break from searching the whole house for the missing handset. Adding to its wide array of features are a last 10 number redial and the ability to answer incoming calls just by pressing any key. You can connect up to 12 handsets through a single phone jack and the elderly as well as those who have hearing problems would be happy to know that it is Hearing Aid Compatible. The digital answering system can record a maximum of 14 minutes and you don't need to go to the base to check your mails as each handset has its own mailbox. The recorded messages also has time and date stamp. The blue backlit display remains clear and visible even from a distance and the voicemail waiting indicator lets you know when you have new messages. You can even transfer calls and make intercom calls between handsets. There are selectable ring tones which are a nice bonus and turning the ringer off is also possible. A volume control for the handset and ringer are likewise present. Lastly, VTech's DS6151 supports caller ID and caller waiting and has a phonebook which can hold up to 50 names and numbers.
