Review: The Optoma HD20 allows you to experience high-quality entertainment in the comfort of your own home. As with most DLP projectors, it lacks a Variable Optical Lens Shift which negates the need to tilt the projector but it displays full HD 1080p and packs 1700 ANSI Lumens for stunning, bright images. It also has a frame rate of 24 frames per second for smooth rendering of fast action scenes and a 4000:1 contrast ratio which offers excellent color accuracy. With its noise reduction rate of 29dB, you can watch your favorite movies with no annoying background noise. The Optoma HD20 includes a lens cover and a backlit Infrared remote control for simple operation. There are two modes which effectively extends lamp life. It is rated to last up to 4,000 hours in low mode and 3000 hours in high mode. Replacement bulbs are also priced lower compared to other projectors. In terms of connectivity, it does not support S-Video but it is equipped with two HDMI inputs for viewing HD media. In addition, it also has D-Sub and component video inputs which enable playback from other sources including Blu-Ray players, cameras, TVs, laptops, desktop computers and more. Given its small form factor and light weight, Optoma's HD20 makes a perfect fit for frequent travelers or for those with limited space at home. It may be cheap and small in size but it projects great picture quality without compromise.

It throws a crystal-clear picture at 720p from as far as 29 feet away from the screen. The 200-watt E-TORL bulb is rated to last over 5000 hours on the projector's Eco mode (4000 on normal mode), and can easily be replaced once it burns out. An automatic digital keystone correction immediately adapts and corrects images to prevent distortion even if the projector is skewed up to a 30-degree angle. A set of ports provide maximum connectivity and allow it to be used with a host of different equipment with HDMI connectors, Type A and B USB ports, Component Video and Digital S-video forming an array at the back of the unit. While this LCD projector has speakers, it is still recommended to use separate speakers for audio output. A remote controller makes it easy to change settings, especially when the projector is mounted to a ceiling. Usage-wise, the Epson PowerLite is above par for digital projection equipment. Colors are as bright as when viewed from an actual digital screen, especially when connected via HDMI. On the other hand, black levels may vary depending on the source of the projection. USB playback is best for still images rather than video because of some lag issues, so it is better to insert the USB key to a computer and let it handle the decoding.
