Ranking Updated: February 2012

From small ones that fit well in your kitchen cabinet to counter top designs that are good enough for pros to use, there are many different types of food processors. Some have fixed speed while others are embedded with different speed settings. There are also models with built-in safety features and retractable cords while others flaunt a nicer design but simpler controls. Do you have questions about the safety, speed or reliability of these handy kitchen appliances? When you know what you want, our listings below can be very helpful in the decision-making process. At IntelliReview, we use a system that evaluates both positive and negative reviews from numerous sources around the web. This enables us to provide you with an in-depth look at how to get the most for your money when you're shopping for food processors online. With so many features and models available, it can be confusing to go through hundreds of products. We make it easier for you by letting you skip low quality and inferior models. While other websites enable you to find items using a few criteria, IntelliReview allows you to intelligently shop around without wasting a lot of time.

TIPS
  1. A powerful motor makes food processors an essential time-saving appliance in anyone's kitchen.
  2. Large work bowls allow more food to be handled, which is a key component of saving time. Several food processors, like some Cuisinart models, include multiple bowls which can be handy when working with different quantities and food items.
  3. You may also want to consider the size of the feed tube across different models of food processors, as a wide feed tube will make it easier to push items into the machine.
  4. Clean-ups after preparing food are inevitable, so pick models that are easy to clean and are dishwasher-safe.

Pros: Easy to operate, Features KitchenAid's ExactSlice System, Good capacity
Cons: No actual buttons, Feed tube can be hard to clean

The KitchenAid 13-Cup Food Processor is an epitome of the saying "great things come in small packages". The innovative ExactSlice System offers uniform cutting while the Ultra Wide Mouth feed tube accepts whole fruits and vegetables. Featuring an Adjustable Slicing Disc, it can cut your ingredients into thin or thick slices. There are status light indicators for both low and high settings. A pulse setting is even provided to give you more control while blending. Also included in the package are a BPA Free 13-cup Work Bowl for demanding tasks, a 4-cup mini bowl with mini-blade and lid for smaller quantities, a Dough Blade for perfect dough mixing, a pusher and a storage case for keeping all the blades and accessories organized. At 25 lbs, the KFP1333 series is lighter than most food processors in the market today. The different color options including contour silver, onyx black, empire red and white allows you to add life to your kitchen counter. Also, it measures 11 13/16 inches wide, 10 7/8 inches deep and 16 5/8 inches high thus, taking up a small amount of space on your countertop. While we like the smooth surface with no actual buttons to press, it is a case-by-case basis as some users prefer to have clickable buttons which can be easier to press at certain times. For example, when you're in a hurry to get things done and you're trying to save some valuable time. Another nitpick is the 3-piece construction of the feed tube which makes it hard to clean due to the number of nooks and crannies that food can get stuck in. However, bundled with a 1-Year Hassle-Free Replacement Warranty, the KitchenAid 13-Cup Food Processor is highly dependable. In addition to making food preparation a snap to do, it also provides an ideal blend of quality, style and performance.

Pros: Easy to use and clean, Large workbowl, Powerful, Reasonable price
Cons: Gaps require more effort when cleaning

While cooking meals for your loved ones can be a rewarding and delightful task, preparing the ingredients is not an easy thing to do. Cuisinart acknowledges and resolves the problem by releasing the DLC-2009CHB. The 9-Cup Lexan work bowl is ideal for large batches and the touchpad controls permit easy, push button operation. Given the size of its feeding tube, you won't have to slice whole fruits and vegetables. It allows you to feed them directly into the unit while the 4mm medium slicing disc or shredding disc chops and grinds them into tiny pieces. Both discs are made of durable stainless steel to ensure quality and durability. The unit carries a limited 3-year warranty and the motor is backed by a 10-year warranty. Although the removable, dishwasher-safe parts make it easier to clean than competing models, the gaps require a little effort as food tends to get stuck in between. The compact size of this food processor makes it ideal for tight spaces. Unlike most models, you won't need to hide it in the kitchen cabinet after every use because it has an attractive design that goes well with both modern and traditional kitchen. First time users and new cooks would also love the addition of a How-to-DVD that provides a step-by-step procedure and a recipe book to help you get started. Aside from making salsa and soup, the dough blade allows you to mix different kinds of dough such as pie, pizza and pastry dough. Also included in the package is a detachable disc stem, a chopping/ mixing blade and a spatula for easy food removal. The Cuisinart DLC-2009CHB packs a lot of convenient features in a portable package. In addition to its reasonable price, its quality and powerful performance also make it a keeper.

Pros: Large main bowl capacity, Powerful induction motor, Capable of operating with different bowls at the same time
Cons: Compatibility issues between the blade attachments and the bowls, Cleaning issues with the perimeter of the lid

Working in your kitchen has now become so much easier with the Cuisinart Elite Collection Food Processor. The process of preparing food becomes much quicker with the help of this food processor's enormous capacity working bowl that is great for large servings. For smaller quantities, a second and third smaller bowls are also included. All the working bowls are shatter and heat-resistant, but easily the greatest strength of this particular food processor is the ability to nest the smaller bowls within the larger main bowl and have the processor work with the contents of the bowls all at the same time thus, effectively giving you three food processors for the price of one as well as paring down prep times for individual ingredients. The rims of the individual bowls have holding tabs for easy handling, a molded lip for no-spill pouring and measurement gradations marked along one side of the large bowl. A snap-on style of assembly saves on the preparation times too. The base of the Cuisinart Elite Food Processor is minimalist in exterior design with a brushed die-cast finish but has a 1000-watt power output induction motor that is powerful enough to knead even bread dough. The control panel consists of a simple touchpad console with only four - on, off, dough and pulse - settings. At the back of the base is the cord outlet which conveniently retracts the power cord for easy storage. A set of blades for specific uses is also present. There is a slicing disc, a shredding disc, a combination chopper and mixer and a dough kneader. A splatter-proof seal around the rubber lid keeps your ingredients within the processing chamber and not on your kitchen walls. A similar principle is also used on the Cuisinart's blades. Both removal and attachment of the cutting parts onto the assembly use a secure locking mechanism for added safety. All the attachments can be stored inside a nice plastic box for safekeeping and storage as well. This is a nice touch, considering that the actual blades on the slicing units are quite sharp and may cause accidents. A few issues in terms of use limit the Cuisinart Elite Collection Food Processor though. For example, you can only use the smaller bowls while nested inside the large bowl. The dough blade is only compatible with the large bowl and the slicing and shredding discs only work with the large and medium work bowls. Also, the anti-spill system of this food processor has a space between the gasket and the rim of the bowl that unfortunately tends to trap food particles. This small space needs particular attention when cleaning, as running the cover through the dishwasher may not be enough to dislodge the stuck debris.

Pros: Ideal for quick and small tasks, Easy clean-up, Nice-looking
Cons: Few speed settings, Bulky, Flimsy bowl

KitchenAid has perfected the art of food preparation and made cooking even more fun with the KFP715ER. The powerful induction motor and stainless steel multipurpose blade make slicing, mixing, blending and other cooking tasks a painless process. The reversible disc that acts as two discs in one, a 2 mm slicing blade and a medium 4 mm shredding blade, ensures that all your ingredients are evenly chopped. The unit is also easy to take apart and assemble. The Clean Touch Control Pad makes clean-up a snap to do. You can just wipe it with a cloth. All its parts are dishwasher-safe. At 14 5/16 Inches x 7 5/16 Inches x 9 1/8 Inches (HxDxW), the KFP715ER is a little bulky. The 7-cup work bowl also seems a little flimsy. The same could be said of the plastic base. It would've been better if it's constructed with stainless steel or something more durable than its plastic casing. On the contrary, its price is quite cheap and reasonable. The empire red color is also nice to look and it makes a perfect match for those who want a decorative piece of kitchen equipment and are going between a balance of style and usability. For heavy tasks, a 12-cup food processor is recommended, though. Included accessories are a pusher, a 7-cup work bowl and a work bowl cover to prevent spattering all over the countertop. No need to precut ingredients, you can feed whole vegetables or fruits through the full-size feed tube. We must admit that the speed settings are few when compared to other food processors, but a pulse control is provided for greater control, in cases when more precision is needed. Although it is not the smallest or the most powerful we've come across, for small tasks, the KitchenAid KFP715ER will serve you well.
