TIPS
  1. Digitizing tablets provide a more intuitive way of using your computer. Graphics applications, in particular, offer support for tablets to the extent that you can draw directly into the computer without having to use pen and paper.
  2. Almost all tablets use a USB interface to connect to the computer, but a few high-end models, such as some Wacom Intuos models, offer wireless tablets for total freedom.
  3. There are also several digitizing tablets like the Wacom Cintiq series that offer touch screen capability. They can be quite expensive, though.
  4. The pen used in digitizing tablets may or may not require battery to provide energy. Pick one depending on your needs.

Pros: Stylish, USB hub compatible, Cordless Pen & Mouse
    Cons: Expensive

This beautiful little tablet by Wacom is definitely worth a closer look. The Intuos4 Large Digitizing Tablet is a great tablet bursting with features, including a responsive touch dial, express keys, OLED labeled buttons, and a cordless pen to name a few. The pen has 2048 levels of sensitivity and the pen tips are estimated to have a life cycle of about 20 million strokes. This makes the pen for the Intuos4 more responsive and durable than many in its class. Its compact size makes it ideal for travel and its ambidextrous design means whether you're left handed or right handed it's a comfortable fit for everyone. What we love most about this little gem is its 102 ½ square inches of work space. This increased workspace makes it great for illustrators who need a bit more room to create. However, this tablet is a bit on the expensive side, even for its class. But with so many features the price is understandable and with the pen tip's extended lifespan you can expect to get plenty of mileage out of this particular tablet.

    Pros: Stylish, compact
Cons: No travel sleeve, Big for a small tablet, only offers 16:9 aspect ratios

The Intuos4 Small Pen Tablet by Wacom is one of the smaller tablets in the Wacom family, but don't count it out because of its size. It's a powerful little tablet with plenty of features including a touch ring with 4 presets, express keys, customization software, and vista support. Its software package is an impressive one including Adobe Photoshop Elements and Autodesk Sketchbook 2010 Express. Whether you use it for note taking or illustration this tablet has what you need to get the job done. What we love most about this little beauty is its 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. It's this great level of sensitivity which makes it such a responsive tablet. However, we do take issue with it only offering an aspect ratio of 16:9. It's also a bit large for its class, but its thin design makes it easy tote and you have to love its modern design. This tablet is definitely a great buy.

Pros: Large pad, Long lifespan, Compatible with Mac and PC
    Cons: Expensive

The Intuos 4 Extra Large Pen Tablet by Wacom is one of the biggest tablets on the market today. It's one of the more expensive tablets in its class, but with so many features it's more than worth the price. The Intuous4 Extra Large Pen tablet has a nice weighted pen which improves sketch quality and control. It has express keys for easy access to its features and its sleek design makes it easy on the eyes, but what we like most about this tablet is the tablet's surface. While the frame is a bit on the slippery side the traction of the actual work surface is remarkable. Combine that with the sensitivity of the cordless pen and you get a real pen on paper feel. However there have been some compatibility issues reported for Windows Vista users. While it has been reported that the vista support for this tablet is poor, these reports are few and far between. The versatility of this tablet more than makes up for any compatibility issues you might encounter. This light, thin tablet is a great buy for anyone who appreciates quality in their tablets.

Pros: Large workspace, Precise, User-definable shortcuts
    Cons: High price, Glossy surface

Enjoy the benefits of a mouse-less desk using the Wacom Intuos4. The 8.8" x 5.5" active area stays compact while offering easy navigation and enough space for finishing your projects and drawing. Although the glossy surface attracts dust and makes it a fingerprint magnet, it also makes it all the while, attractive. The touch ring permits up to four functions and the illuminated display ensures that you're never left fumbling in the dark. With 8 Express keys and a 2048 Pressure Level, you can experience easy access to user-defined functions along with superb precision. Even if it requires software installation and a broadband connection for downloading the bundled software, this tablet is still a piece of cake to set-up. It needs an available USB port and a CD/DVD drive. Compatibility is not an issue as it works perfectly with Windows 7, Vista, XP (SP2+) and Mac OS X 10.4.8+. Aside from the tablet and the software, it also ships with a USB cable, a grip pen, a mouse, a pen stand and a nib extractor. The only caveat is that the nibs wear out too easily but luckily it comes with ten replacement nibs including one flex nib, one stroke nib, five standard nibs and three hard felt nibs. The Wacom Intuos4 works just as advertised. The price tag may be a little too high but it is a great investment for professionals who are looking for a highly-capable and extremely compact tablet with excellent precision and impressive capability.

  • Adesso CyberTablet Z7 Graphics Tablet (5.50\

Pros: Precise and responsive, Sufficient working area, Larger-sized pen, Bundled software is helpful, Easy set-up, Good build quality
Cons: Pen uses one AAA battery

Graphics tablets enable you to enhance your computer usage by letting you add signatures to your documents and easily draw or edit your photos in a much simpler way. Offering 1024 levels of pen pressure sensitivity and bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, ArtRage 2.5 Drawing Software and Pen Suite for Windows XP/2000 users, the 5.5" x 4" Adesso CyberTablet Z7 allows you to do just that. It is USB powered so you won't need an additional power adapter. This also makes it ideal for those who want something more portable and easy to carry from home to work and vice versa. The 2-button pen fits larger-sized hands since it is bigger than those included in other tablets at 5.4" x 0.75". It requires one AAA battery though, adding a little weight to the pen. With the Z7's 100 RPS report rate, you are sure that it is responsive, in addition to being precise and accurate. The 9 programmed hotkeys is a helpful addition, providing easy access to commonly-used applications. Build quality is also comparable to higher-priced tablets. It is constructed with high-quality plastic and rubber feet which make it durable and allow it to stand still on the desk. You can use it with Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000 or Macintosh OS 9 and OS X. The photo editing software encourages creativity and is easy to use even for novices. The Z7 also comes supplied with a USB cable for easy connection and two manuals for Mac and Windows. Whether you're buying one for note-taking and signing or for more serious and professional purposes like drawing or editing, the Adesso CyberTablet Z7 is worth considering. It is priced much cheaper but in terms of quality and usability, the difference is hardly noticeable, even when compared to more expensive tablets.
