The Logitech Z623 is an entry level model with above average features. It is perfect for users who also consider price in addition to performance when it comes to equipment. Its small, simple appearance and understated basic black color scheme hide the fact that a maximum of 200 watts of powerful, THX-certified sound are channeled through its 2.1 speaker setup. Composed of a subwoofer and two connected satellites, this speaker system has amazing sound quality for such an unassuming package. The Highs and Mid ranges are well represented and the Lows resonate with depth enough to make the floorboards rattle. Its minimal footprint is designed to complement most computer systems, be they desktops or laptops. In fact, the controls for the product are integrated with the right desktop satellite, very similar to traditional 2-channel speakers. The cables connecting the speakers to each other are limited to six feet each, requiring them to be placed adjacent to each other. The input for this model is a 3.5" stereo jack which is also the default audio plug for computers and music devices. On the other hand, the Z623 took its classification of being a basic model too much and invested all of the good design credits it had on beefing up the audio. It skipped on a few user essentials like remote controls and additional input ports. As mentioned, all the controls on the unit are on the right speaker. It is perfect if you're sitting in front of the computer but can be difficult if you're anywhere else and doing anything else. Considering that the unit can be hooked up to a source using RCA jacks, it feels like too much of a bother to stand up to adjust the volume when watching a movie, for example. On the subject of input ports, its two RCA sockets (white and red for left and right input) seem lacking especially when connected to other equipment with HDMI or at the least, digital audio connections. All in all, despite the limitations it has, the Logitech Z623 is still an excellent choice for general purpose computer and device use.

Easy connectivity and affordable price are two of Bose Companion's predominant qualities. As with most multimedia speakers, it could use a little more bass but unlike them, it comes equipped with magnetically shielded speakers and automatic tonal balance that ensure no interference from monitors and other media and produce undistorted sound regardless of the volume level. It also incorporates Proprietary TrueSpace technology and ported cabinet design which offer a rich, full sound. Set-up is a snap to do. Just plug in the power cable and connect the input cable to your computer then you can enjoy high-fidelity audio right away. In addition, it has dual inputs which allow easy connection to your computer and other portable audio devices like mp3 players. This speaker system is very compact and sleek that it blends seamlessly with your computer and enables you to save essential space. It also has rubber feet that keep it from sliding on your desk. One minor annoyance with the Bose Companion 2 is its lack of an on/off switch which means that you have to unplug the cord each time you want to turn it off but the good thing is that it has a volume control knob and a headphone jack located in front of the right speaker for easy access and quick volume adjustment. The Bose Companion 2 does not produce heart-thumping sound but for normal listening and daily activities like playing games and watching movies, it is worth the try.

If you're looking to trade off your ordinary desktop speakers for better audio hardware, you could do much worse than choosing the Z313 from Logitech. They are primarily computer speakers but they also work with mobile devices that has 3.5mm jacks like iPods. Being a 2.1 system, you get two satellites and a subwoofer on purchase. This multimedia speaker is a compact unit. With the satellites measuring 5.75" tall, 3.20" wide and 3.50" deep while the sub stands at 9" tall, 8.66" wide and 5.90" deep, it can fit even in cramped computer workstations. The unit also has a handy control pod wired to the back of the subwoofer with power and volume controls. Setup is so easy that it could be done in minutes. Simply connect the power cord, the satellites and the control pod to the panel at the back of the sub then hook it up to your source. In a bit of questionable design ideas, Logitech has supplied the Z313 with generous amounts of wire, which, by the looks of it, is for setting up the satellites for wall mounting. The thing is, neither of the two satellites has provisions to attach them to walls, so the extra wire length really serves no purpose. Another issue is that the speaker for the subwoofer is at the bottom of the box without any sort of covering, a screen for example, to protect it. This puts it at risk for damage from stray fingers with sharp nails especially when lifting the subwoofer box. Its little feet which lift the unit off the ground is okay if it is kept in a single place but if you are the type that moves items around then holding the box nearer to the edges when transporting it is safer than having your fingers laced around the box's underside. The speakers show decent audio dynamics in general and excel with the higher trebles, which come out crisp and solid from the satellites and not tinny even at louder volumes. Considering the satellite's small size, the sound output they give is exceptional. It's a little hard to pick up on the midrange sounds as they come from both the satellites and the subs. The bass is also good and strong but not exceptional. Taken as a whole, the unit produces excellent sound quality without too much loss of audio detail, it is more of a case of the product equaling the sum of its parts. While it may not please the hardcore audiophile, the Logitech Z313 is a good choice for the casual computer-based listener.
