Review: For both photo and text document printing needs, the HP Photosmart 6520 All-in-One Inkjet Printer is probably the best device to get. This compact all-in-one handles ordinary and special printing tasks with ease, producing printouts in brilliant color. What's more, the multifunction features of this printer handle any other tasks you might have. Designed roughly like a compact box, the HP Photosmart 6520 has a touch screen control panel built into the front of the printer, just over the output tray. The display, with a graphical, icon-style interface, serves as both as a control panel as well as an easy status monitor for viewing status, or programming the printer. Underneath, you get the 80-sheet paper input tray for letter and legal-size paper, with a special 20-sheet feeder for 4 X 6 or 5 X 7 photo papers. As it is a photo printer first and foremost, the HP Photosmart 6520 does a pretty impressive job with full-color images, with its ability to accurately render colors. Glossy and matte papers work well with this printer, as the ink will dry out easily, keeping the printed picture smudge-free. However, when it comes to ordinary paper, the 6520 does falter a tiny bit, with images coming out less crisp than expected. The 6520 produces printouts at a respectable rate, although not the best in its class. The 6520's scanner, copier, and fax functionality is par for the course. It should be noted though that instead of using a physical phone line, the 6520 provides a subscription to a web-based fax service that lets you send a certain amount of faxes for free. Also, the scanner bed on this all-in-one is limited to 8.5 X 11-inch documents. The 6520 supports auto duplexing for documents, but you can choose to toggle this feature on or off using the control panel. HP's Photosmart 6520 has slots for SD/MMC memory cards as well as for Memory Stick Duo. The printer offers basic photo retouching and editing functions that are accessible through the control panel. However, it does not have a Type-A USB port, so printing directly from cameras using PictBridge or from thumb drives isn't possible. Finally, being branded as a wireless printer, with a wide range of support for wireless printing services like AirPrint or ePrint or cloud storage, the HP Photosmart 6520 All-in-One Inkjet Printer does have a robust wireless connectivity option aside from the standard USB cord. However, it does not have Ethernet connectivity at all, limiting the choices significantly.
